I think that this is much more pernicious than spam, especially when you
consider that you have to pay to retrieve voicemails on most mobile
tariffs. I was so aggrieved when it first happened to me that I
contacted Orange, who told me that they do not sell phone lists and that
the agency responsible must have been dialling random mailbox numbers
and leaving messages. The messages I received went along the lines of:
'Hi - it's Sue, to collect your free whatever, call this number .....
(whisper: calls cost a pound a minute)'
Disgusting behaviour. I also wrote to Oftel, but they were as much use
a chocolate teapot. It would appear there is not a lot can be done to
stop this revolting practice! Grim is far too weak a word.
