Actually, yes I would. The chances that I'd just passed into HMV for
directions are slim, so as a Virgin representitive, I would assume that you
hadn't found the specific item you were looking for here. Now, obviously I
would try and help you to find that item, but if you were desperate to move
on to Virgin, it would be worth the lost sale (which I may not be able to
convert anyhow) in customer PR to help you any way I could.

Sadly, customer marketing relationships are widely ignored these days. It's
all about making the fastest buck by whatever means necessary.

And to analogise the original point - link sites and search engines are
visited far more frequently that individual sites with no routes to the
outsite world, and if traffic is your driver...
