56 Kbits/sec is a lab theoretically highest speed. The modems sound data
transfer is only 33.6 and 56 is compression on top of that platform. And
therefore will not really be as fast as it says. The really odd thing is
that if you ask around most of the users in the world a couple of years ago
were still on 28.8. But the speed is academic anyway since most sites chock
users so as to leave the way open for a greater number at a faster speed.
My geek side is growing I think.

............. much more to the point, what speeds are people GETTING
rather than using? I've got a 56k modem but more often than I'd like I
regularly only get 14.4 in the evening out of BT internet. Think the most
I've ever noticed is 40 something.

Anything that doesn't load quick at 14.4 gets dumped in the evening. For
website market research purposes ownership of the equipment is not
necessarily the important factor in decision making. Don't know why you
wanted the data Holger, but be careful with any conclusions you make!
