Subject: UKNM: RE: new media conferences
From: Ian Tester

Haven't been to hundreds of these shindigs, but I know a fair bit about how
they're put together . . . Fletcher's are pretty hot in the UK (hand up -
used to work there). Forrester conferences are *legendarily* good, Jupiter's
also are great, and have the reputation of being a little more "interactive"
than Forrester's.

Avoid any arranged by companies that also do millions of other conferences
in other industries - their producers are unlikely to know the industry
particularly well, and therefore they'll cobble together any old nonsense in
a very short timeframe . . . ones linked to the big mags (Revolution,
Marketing, NMA) are better than most run-of-the-mill stuff, as they'll have
access to the journos to give them pointers, contacts (depends how much you
trust the journos ;-))

like most things - go for the company that has deep market experience, not
the jack of all trades "oh this new media thing could make us some money,
innit?" brigade. so analysts first, then mag-based, then the rest . . .

happy hunting, schmooze away . . .
