In terms of global figures, the recent WAP Forum projected that by 2003

there will be 500 million wap users worldwide, with 75 percent of all mobile

phones Internet-enabled. However different regions of the world are at

varying levels of wireless-uptake: Asia and parts of Europe are ahead of the

US for example. It is hard to nail down an exact figure for current

penetration of WAP phones in the UK as it is not in the manufacturers

interests to release such data. However conventional wisdom is that by the

beginning of 2001 there will be approx. 1 million WAP phones in circulation.



It's also worth noting that the WAP Forum's projection only acknowledges

half the story - WAP is the first enabling protocol of the new next

generation network that will enable multiple devices such advanced multi

media phones,PDAs and interactive TVs. Developing the "back end" (server

side) of any enterprise will be the key to successfully delivering wireless

services which can adapt to the new emerging protocols.

Not original questions, but all I can find are rumours, whispers and PR.


a) Does anybody have figures for WAP market size right now, and/or projected

uptake?

b) If there are any WAP gurus out there... what's the deal with taking a

commission on premium rate WAP calls?

c) Anybody recommend any WAP developers?
