How is the PR industry adapting now that social media is heading for mainstream adoption?

The growth of the internet and collaborative media is affecting PR, brands and business globally...

After bloggers posted about how their bicycle locks could easily be picked, Kryptonite's share price plummeted. They had ignored their online PR.

Ask.com was recently rumbled running a fake social media site. Their campaign had backfired and created a backlash in the blogosphere.

So how is the PR industry adapting now that social media is heading for mainstream adoption? Is honesty and transparency going to be the best policy? Can your brand afford to be found out by a citizen journalist armed with a blog and a camera phone?

So long used to spinning the message, it could be time for the PR industry to learn new tricks. Today brands don't just have blogs and MySpace to contend with. They have Twitter, Jaiku and Hotxt too. Haven't heard of them? Time to get clued-up then...

Join us at the fourth Chinwag Live evening - where everybody's input counts - to lift the lid on what's happening and start making sense of the issues...
