Description

Channel 4 are kindly hosting this month's ONA meet-up on the topic:

Crowd sourcing – how the web can harness public wisdom to help with investigative journalism.
Presented by: Vicky Taylor, Commissioning Editor, New Media, News and Current Affairs, Channel 4

Channel 4 launched www.channel4.com/whoknowswho to draw on the connections between people and show the networks of power in UK. Journalists for Channel 4 News at ITN and for current affairs programmes such as Dispatches build up maps around subjects – from David Cameron’s school and university connections to those who know who in the Green world of environmental politics ahead of the Copenhagen summit. Then with the user input adding more names and connections, the idea is the site grows and grows, bringing in new stories and harnessing collective wisdom to become the biggest network of power in the UK.

We'll be discussing:

How important is crowd sourcing for web journalists?

How can it be used – and lessons we can learn.
