Subject: ANN: Dreamweaver 1.2 update available

This is a bit off-topic to the group, but if you're using Dreamweaver, then
the 1.2 updater is now available on the Macromedia website.

Biggest change is likely the table/layer interconversion. You can design in
layers and then save out a table-based version of the page. Or you can open
an old table-based layout, and convert it to layers for animation. There's
also the ability to devolve stylesheets to chunk-level formatting, so that
older browsers will see the text as you wish.

When combined with the new browser-detection behavior, it's easy to design
for 4.0 browser and yet still give a good experience to those on older
browsers.

Link-checking has been added, on both page and site levels. You can
identify or fix broken links quickly, and it will also identify orphaned
files for you too.

Dreamweaver 1.2 is doublebyte aware. Firewalls can now be negotiated in the
site management window. The HTML Inspector is colorcoded. There's improved
communication with external text editors. You can also designate an
external image editor which will automatically open the graphic, and
Dreamweaver will display the changes when done. The behaviors and API have
been improved, such as a really nifty drag'n'drop behavior for objects on
the screen.

Many, many more small tweaks and requests, too. It's significant, and free.

Note: The Dreamweaver 1.2 trial version is also available, and it uses a
different clock than the Dreamweaver 1.0 trial version. This means that you
can use Dreamweaver 1.2 free for a month, with all its abilities, even if
you already used the Dreamweaver 1.0 trial version on that machine.

Have fun!
