FLASH: HELP!! Actionscript question

I am working on a flash "quiz" and the info is being pulled from a text

file. The info changes when you click the button to go to the next question.

The questions are different lengths and I want to have a scroll bar appear

only when the text is a certain length. All that works fine. The problem I

am running into is when a question has hard returns in it. Flash does not

detect those as spaces and therefore does not add my scroller when the

question is long enough. Is there a way to  detect the hard returns? Could

it be done with a Chr()? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
