I do appreciate your calling my explination a mess...

The only limitations to total freedom of font choice is file size and
the fact that Flash's regular text is anti-aliased and does not display
well at small sizes. Good user interface design also limits the smallest
size of text you should be using as well. So if you don't use text that
is too small then it should be quite readable (though maybe not as crisp
as you would like). Most people increse the minimum font size they use
by a point or two to compensate for Flash's smoothness.

There has been no change in the anti-aliasing of Flash's regular text
and if the fonts appear overly smooth to you in Flash 3, then they will
appear the same way in Flash 4.
