Hello Richard,

Convert to symbol and create new symbol is the same thing only giving you
options to go directly to edit mode. Create new symbol takes you immediately
to the edit mode assuming you want to do any edits. If not.. then convert to
symbol just leaves you in the main timeline. You can do the "create new
symbol" and when you get the edit mode.. import your object(s) and start
working on them without ever having to work on the main timeline. This is
nice if you are creating lots of movie clips that are independent of the
main timeline and just want do stay in the edit mode. Like all computer
programs.. there is multiple ways to do things. It's up to the user to find
out what works best for them.
