Rogue,

This person is misinformed, and doesn't understand the difference between
raster/bitmap and vector. Think of a cake (I seem to be on a sweets metaphor kick
today)...bitmap images such as GIFs and JPEGs are the complete baked and frosted
cake that you're trying to send to a friend through the mail -- messy, expensive
and tough to slip through a mail slot. A Flash file is like the cake recipe --
light, compact, easy to send -- then your friend mixes and bakes the cake on
their end.

This person is talking about how Flash requires fat pipes, but stuff they're
creating in 3D Studio Max most likely requires a whole lot more bandwidth than a
comparable Flash file. In addition, while they're sending a single STATIC image,
Flash can provide an entire web application (such as an online bank) with
comparable file size!

Maybe this person saw some poorly developed Flash sites and got the wrong idea.
Also, regarding the plugin download, most browsers come with the Flash plugin
pre-installed now, and if you're doing simple animations without need for complex
interactivity, you can publish a Flash file that is compatible with older
versions, in which case well over 90% of your audience will have an appropriate
plugin already installed.

And if this person is saying that "bigtime artists and web people" don't use
Flash, well... I'll let that one lie in wait for another flaming spear.

I could go on and on and on...

Of course, it's also a question of the right tool for the right job. Flash MAY
NOT be right for what you want to do, but your friend's ideas are pretty far off
base. BTW, does your friend work for Adobe??? ;o]

Good luck!
Randy
