that maybe his opinion, but in mine, he is out to lunch. Granted, some

pieces do take a long time to load, but that is usually because either the

client wants gratuitous animations, or the flash author has not optimized

correctly. Flash is great if you use it the right way. Plus you can make

interactive games and applications - try that with cool 3d. Flash is more

than just animation, it is also interactivity, scripting... multimedia and

most of all entertaining to the viewer.


It is all in how you use it..and some people do over use it - but it is up

to you as to what you make.


So once you know the ropes better, prove him wrong.

Hello!  I'm pretty new to Flash and I've been lurking here, reading and

trying to make sense of all the posts!  :-)  Anyway, a friend of mine found

out I was learning Flash and had this to say (which ticked me off):


"First off I have to tell you....while Flash may be cool all the

webmaster people I know hate it. It is major-league frowned on. Why? #1

You download Flash and you get spammed to death!! #2-takes too long on a

56K modem. MOST PEOPLE still have 56K.


My advice? STAY AWAY FROM FLASH unless you make it an OPTION. Make it a

place where those with T1s and DSLs can go if they so choose but DO NOT

make it part of your site without the option.


TRUST ME!!! I get paid to do trendspotting and demography work. I KNOW

THIS SHIT!!


FLASH is BAD!!!


I have 3 programs that cost less then Flash that make gorgeous animation

and loads quicker then Flash and requires NO downloading....


Read the info. You are bigtime missing out. FLASH is for idiots, Painter

is for artists. Trust me, Rogue I TEACH THIS I know. Flash is like the

Walmart of animation. IT SUCKS.


Painter is for true artists like you.


3-D Studio Max (my fave program) is Industrial Light and Magic state of

the art stuff and requires that no one download any program.


Can you tell I am so anti FLASH???


There is a program called U-LEAD Cool 3-D that costs $90 and does not

require that people who view your site download a program. It creates

GORGEOUS animation. Flash looks great but when I go to their site to

download the viewer I get spammed.


Trust me, Rogue, bigtime artists and web people FROWN ON THIS!!! They

prefer you do your art with the REAL deal.....PHOTOSHOP, PAINTER !!"


So, my question to all you people who work with this program, what are your

comments regarding this letter?  Is any of it true?  I can understand the

comment about having an alternate "unenhanced" site but I was under the

impression, Flash was the way EVERYONE was headed?


Oh, and by the way, I am a traditional artist which is what she was

referring

to when she calls me an artist...
