The XML capabilities are not limited by browser, it is all interal to the
plugin.
As for the server, you have to build your own... it can be anything you
want, but Java is really easy to implement since all you need is a simple
serverSocket object. thats it...

I doubt there will be a *ton* of info up on this as it is quite complex, the
best thing you can do is make sure you are really boned up on your Java
networking stuff, and thats all you *really* need...

FYI, the socket connections have nothing really to do with XML, its just
that XML is the only thing Flash lets you send over a socket, thats all.

Subject: FLASH: Flash 5 Question

To anyone who has played with Flash 5 alot(Branden, JD, etc)..

I work for a company with a big project coming up and had questions about
the capabilities and a few details about Flash to judge what kind of work I
can expect when my copy comes.

Regarding the XML sockets....what, in general, do they connect to? Do you
have to build a server to store the data that is streaming on the server or
is there something built into Flash 5 already? If so, are there language
restrictions(Java, ASP, etc..). I know a bit about Java sockets and have
used them for irc based chats and some streaming data from databases but I'm
not sure exactly how the Flash 5/XML sockets will work. Is it something a
Flash 5 book would explain better or would a thourough knowledge of XML be a
better asset? On that note..If an XML book is a better resource, as I
understand it, XML is an IE only thing. Will the XML sockets in Flash also
be restricted to IE? My project is going to make extensive use of this
feature and I just want to know how to gauge things.

Thanks for any info.
