A drop down is generally composed of a few elements-
a movie clip conaining the following:
a) an action layer
b) the "closed look"
c) the "open look"

You're missing the action layer. Create a movie clip, where the first frame
features a button and the "closed" look. Put a stop motion on that frame.
Now, in frame 2 and however many more you wish to use (if there's
animation), create the "open" look. In frame one, give the button instance
the action to goto and play frame 2. (give it whatever you want- rollover,
drag, release, etc.) There's a few ways to collapse it. All tutorials that
I had looked at so far involve using an invisible button (containing only a
hit state), that is in the last frame behind the rest of the menu and
bigger, which has a rollover state returning to frame 1 of the movie. This
is the easiest to use. Good luck!

Subject: FLASH: Help with dropdown menus?

Hi.
I have a newbie question.
I'm trying to make a pulldown menu. I was able to do it once, but can't make
it work a second time. Can anyone take a look at what I've done and tell me
where I've gone wrong?

the .fla files are up there as well

I really appreciate it.
Thanks,
