Subject: FLASH: My alpha transparency

OK, serious newbie question. I did an animation where in the last part of it, some text fades in (with the motion tween and alpha at 0% in the first frame of the sequence and 100% in the last). It worked fine, but then I lost the file in a crash, and I haven't been able to get it back since. It works fine when I press enter/play, but when I test the scene, there is no fade. Another thing I'm thinking it maybe is because right before the text fades in, I have something else fading out, and I'm not sure if I had it like that before. I've tried putting this whole text deal on another layer, putting it in a different scene, going over the tutorials on motion tweens to the letter, nothing seems to work, SOMEBODY HELP. I'm maaaad frustrated. I'm not this DUMB!!! I know there's something I'm missing...what IS it, man?! :)
PS
I'm dealing with flash 4 if that makes any dif.
