Subject: FLASH: OT: Mac File Sharing Question
From: Laura Mollett
Date: Thu, 20 Jan 2000 03:49:57 GMT

Hi There,
Really sorry for the OT, but would greatly appreciate it if Frederico or
someone familiar with networking on macs can tell me if I can connect two
macs running system 8 or better over the internet? or just over a modem
(local call) for at least file sharing, and preferably program sharing? Do I
need to set up one of the macs as a server and buy some server software? Or
do they have everything they need to be connected (modems and internet
connections and ip numbers) and if so, what do I need to set so they'll
accept the server request?

(That is, I have file sharing on and user groups set to allow guest
connects, but typing in the ip address in the chooser appleshare menu just
gives me a "server is not accepting connects" message, so what am I doing
wrong, if anything? or do I not have all the software I need? :)

Really really appreciate a quick response as my boss wants to connect her
home computer and thinks I know internet stuff (even though I keep telling
her I don't do hardware and complicated networking/coding stuff :)

Sorry again for the OT
