Yes they most likely will have been compressed like an MP3.

To check if MP3 layer encoding has been used to compress the wav
run the WAV file with Windows Media Player and look under "File"
--> "Properties" --> "Advanced" a normal WAV (uncompressed) will only
List "Default DirectSound Device" whereas a compressed WAV will list
"Default DirectSound Device" AND "MPEG Layer-3 Decoder".

The only solution I know of is to rename the file extension to .MP3 and
use a sound program to convert the MP3 to a normal uncompressed WAV

WinAmp is really good, easy and quick for doing this. http://www.winamp.com

Load MP3 file into Winamp, go to --> "Options" --> "Preferences" --> "Output"
change "Nullsoft waveOut plug-in" to Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in"

Great for doing batch jobs, just load a bunch of MP3s you wish convert to WAV
and press play.

Make sure if you wish to use Winamp to just play MP3 music to switch the
plug-in
back to waveOut. Otherwise....
