Subject: FLASH: Overcoming Old Browser Issues
From: Romero, Ann

Hi,

Were about ready to roll out a new site that uses a splash page running
flash 4 at the top. The splash page offers a link to an intro page also
running Flash animation. The problem we're encountering during our
troubleshooting/review phase is that testers using Windows NT and unknown
vintage (probably 3.0) browsers are directed to Macromedia for the latest
Flash player plug in. The script we're running is supposed to detect whether
or not the user has the Flash plug in and the version of it they have. If
Flash 3 is detected, the user is prompted to upgrade to version 4. When our
testers think they have successfully downloaded the plug in, they are still
not able to see our opening splash page or anything underneath. In fact,
their browser just sits there doing nothing.

Are there any steps the users need to take once they've downloaded the plug
in, like clearing their browsers' caches and reloading the page, in order
for them to actually see our top splash page and everything underneath it?

Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so what solutions were you able
to come up with to resolve it?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
