(warning: content is an opinion, partly off-topic, regarding tools useful

Buongiorno Andrea. Parla Inglese? Che cosa desidera in Inglese? Mi scuzi,
por favore, mi Italiano no quante parole.

GLCS 3.1.1 is GoLive CyberStudio, a product based out of Hamburg, and has
since been purchased by Adobe, and is now called GoLive 4.0. It (they) is
a WYSIWIG (what you see is what you get[?]) HTML-based website creation,
editing and management system, much like Dreamweaver by Macromedia.

GoLive is superior to Dreamweaver in many respects, but Dreamweaver has
certain strengths GoLive currently does not. GoLive is currently
Macintosh-only, but will be ported to Wintel sometime this year (soon).

I am intimately familiar with both, and I prefer GoLive. Aside from
more/better tools, it just feels better. But, that said, Dreamweaver
feels more like Flash, which, for me, not for everyone, is an
uncomfortable interface.

In my experience, If you prefer the Windows environment, you'll probably
like Dreamweaver, if you like the Macintosh environment, you'll probably
like GoLive. Each has its own quirks and takes some getting used to.

If you publish in multiple venues, with multiple authors, like myself,
you may need both, for each have their own strengths/weaknesses.

Both interface well with Flash, but currently GoLive does at least one
important, useful thing Dreamweaver can't: edit the links in a protected
SWF. This is extremely useful when managing/rearranging a large site,
preventing the need to go back in and edit a complex FLA, and then
re-export. Note, however, it will *not* (currently) edit the target or
base URL. Hopefully this feature will be expanded in the next release,
and hopefully Dreamweaver will add it in, too.

GoLive currently has built-in Quicktime editing support. Dreamweaver
better protects foreign code. GoLive has more (packaged) actions.
Dreamweaver seamlessly interfaces with BBEdit. GoLive has excellent
support for foreign *language* --not code.

Finally, no product is king forever. Dreamweaver has come a *long* way
since version 1, and if they keep stealing ideas from GoLive, as well as
their own strengths which GoLive should steal from them, they could be
the better product before too long. Especially if you prefer one
company's support over another. A very big factor in purchasing a product.

NOTE: For creation of professional, multi-browser/platform capable pages,
both products require a reasonable base knowledge at a code-level of
HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, JScript, CGI, etc, depending on the content of
your site. If you intend to publish strictly in Flash, you may not need
either AGL or DW, depending only on Aftershock, but GoLive currently has
superior site management/editing for larger sites. You may not need a
WYSIWIG at all, if you are well-versed or prefer writing code by hand.
These are tools are primarily for designers who do not wish to spend so
much time at a code level.

(this missive was created from an experienced opinion only, and is not
intended to begin a debate, but only to provide useful information to the
person asking the question regarding tools to use with Flash. Grazi.)

Buona Giornata

Frederico
