My answer was rather misleading. 

In Adobe Dimensions one of the preferences options is to allow

rendering/saving of hidden lines. I have this option set and am so used

to it I no longer remembered it could be changed. If you toggle this

option off then clipping will occur.

As for breaking apart of original polygons, yes it does. A simple

example would be a cylinder that intersects a cube through it's centre

and at right angles to the faces of the cube. Upon import this results

in six or three polygons for the cube, depending on your preferences

settings, and two or three cylindrical segments, again depending on the

preferences settings.
