Subject: Re: FLASH: Preload + Optimizing

I have a semi-related problem.

I designed a series of flash 3 movies that have loading scenes up front
(with [preload] If Frame is Loaded/Goto + Play actions).

Each main scene has 11khz/8bit audio tracks using 4bit ADPCM compression as
well as lots of little rollover sounds and animations, oh and there is a
trivia game with Director controlling it (that the programmer in my office
are working on), etc...

My problem is that when we tested the movies on 56k modems (or less,
[particularly through AOL]) we almost never get past the loader scenes,
most likely because the audio is just too long/big in the main scenes?! I
think it also could be a problem with AOL as a sucky ISP to test through
...

Is there a way to Preload symbols instead of whole scenes? OR a better way
to optimise performance for the low-end users besides crunching the sound
down to the lowest bit depth and preloading.

The programmers here are suggesting we strip out the sound which would
really SUCK.

I invite all (especially people on modems) to check it out and play the
game if you can and let me know what you all think :

Thanks In Advance,
Mike Reger
