Battery technology in Japan is more advanced and this is not such an issue.
The messages will come via p-mail which uses very little battery memory.
With regards to the intrusiveness, the model will be permission marketing.
For example you allow Starbucks to p-mail you to let you know when a friend
is within 300 metres. With that service they will tell you where the nearest
Starbucks is so you can meet your friend. Sounds like a great service right?
So Starbucks are branding to you and you're happy! When you go in to
McDonalds you'd be offered a free meal in exchange for your mobile no. etc.
etc. Companies may also start sponsoring phone calls to reduce the cost etc.
Endless possiblities
