Exactly. Price is obviously only one part of the mix in any market place -
although new media has it's interesting little facet's it's still not
removed from this.

You get people onto your service through the other parts of the mix, eg
distribution, promotion and the actual product. They'll stay on your
service because of these and also any real or manufactured barriers to exit.

Why do some people stay loyal to BMW cars despite the fact that they're the
same spec as a cheaper car? Probably because of the image of the car which
has been built up through promotional efforts over the years.

Why will some people buy a subscription to FHM for years? Probably because
the brand qualities brought out through the content result in them being
loyal to the magazine.

Why will someone buy a packet of Swan matches instead of Brymay matches?
Probably because they are the ones their local newsagent stock.

Why will someone stay with their mobile phone provider? Probably (up until
recently) because they want to keep their mobile phone number they've had
for years.

As we go on we'll see the ISP's (paid, free, expensive, cheap) deciding
exactly what their brand image is and fitting their marketing around this.
Up until now it's been more a case of "be there and they will come..." or
"chuck money at it and they will come". This is bound to become a bit more
sophisticated in the following months / years.
