If I could clarify, I mean mentoring in the sense of an older, wiser person
giving help and guidance to the decisions faced by younger, more
inexperienced people. Mentors sit with their mentees (?) for an agreed no.
of hours per month (usually 2 or 3) and give them the benefit of their
perspective. They are sometimes in the same industry but not usually, rather
they are in an adjacent industry. An example could be a 23 yr old online
media sales exec is mentored by a 40-something ad agency director.

This is not commercialised in any way and each party must approach with an
open and welcoming mind, and managed expectation. Benefits to both parties
are built over time subject to a successful, communicative and honest
relationship.

I would like to hear off-list from anyone who has been involved with
mentoring in a participatory or organisational way, rather than from anyone
who is interested in solely organising such a scheme.
