Subject: Data Protection Act
From: Sam Michel

Mornin' all...

Following on from this discussion...I was watching the Mark Thomas Product a
couple of weeks back when he concentrated on CCTV, the Data Protection Act
and individual's rights to ask for footage from cameras. See:

http://www.mtcp.co.uk/

Perhaps you can help me out on this one. I asked the people I watched the
show with, and friends/collegaues/passers-by if anyone has ever been
prosecuted or even warned about the Data Protection Act?

My gut feeling is that this year is going to make this even more of a hot
potato than it was last year. The huge growth in opt-in email marketing, as
well as it's more nefarious cousins (opt-out email marketing and spamming)
is going to cause more problems as they fill up your inbox...and then
there's spurious SMS marketing...do I remember rightly that Vodafone (I
think) have been sending out promotional SMS...it'd be interesting to hear
from the folks involved in that.

Toodle Pip
