Boo.com back as a billboard

BOO.COM, the retailer that became the world's first big Internet business

failure, is to be relaunched by the end of the month - as a billboard for

other companies' wares.


Fashionmall.com, the US company that last week bought the boo.com name, is

to resurrect the site, with Miss Boo and several of its original features.

However, the new boo will not sell anything. Instead, it will let its Web

space to other retailers that have the capability to trade online.


Ben Narasin, fashionmall's chief executive, said that he intends to approach

about 12 former boo.com suppliers that run their own websites to see whether

they will sign up.


He said that he had already been contacted by Fred Perry, the sportswear

brand, which is keen to retain the exposure boo.com provided.


Fashionmall's virtual shopping mall makes money by renting virtual leases

ranging from three to 12 months. It charges its clients on a "cost per

click" basis, by charging them for traffic delivered to their clients'

sites. It has been trading for six years, and now contains 130 brands, from

Armani to Yves Saint Laurent.
