imho, that message is just another way to spam. the viewer is compelled to
visit the page to discover what's on it.

with regard to the possibility of accessing your hard drive without
consent, consider what happens with Flash. when a movie streams to your
hard drive, Flash takes the lead. the flash activex is a plain program -
and as such, it can do all sorts of tricks.

that's why explorer provides different protection levels. when you're
downloading activex, you're literally giving your whole system in the hands
of an unknown piece of software.
