You might try focusing on smaller companies who would be open to work with
freelancers more so than are large corporations. This is a good time of
year to be looking, since many contracts are cranking up with the new
year's budgets. Smaller companies may not be able to justify a full-time
hire for a project that will only last a couple of months, and might
therefore welcome freelance help.

See if there's a multimedia / internet / interactive industry association
in your area and start hanging out at meetings. Find a way to make
yourself useful by volunteering. Just tell people what you do and don't
push for work. Pushing gets resistance. If someone raises the issue of
whether you're looking, say yes, and tell them you would appreciate it if
they would pass on any opportunities they know of. If they're looking for
people they'll let you know and you can go from there.

Good luck!
