Nearly every app is compatible with KeyQuencer or other such utilities,
also, the larger WACOM Art Z series pads, as well as other models,
include a large number of cusomizeable (recordable) function keys. The
new iBook, and presumeably, the next gen of OpenWorld PowerBooks and
perhaps DT models will also allow for programmable Fkeys.

You can also program Mac Speech recognition to do just about anything, as
well (if you can AppleScript it, it is, by default, Speech-capable). If
you work in a sound-friendly environment, this may be another solution
for you.

So, get yourself a pad with buttons, and/or install KeyQuencer, and/or
customize your Speech commands to make a keystroke/voice command for
anything that doesn't already have one.

Does anyone doing F4 and other graphics apps fulltime really still use a
mouse to get things done? If so (and, yes, I'm being sarchastic), I don't
know how you get through the week, let alone just an hour. Like multiple
monitors, productivity, not to mention carpal-tunnel and lateral/rhomboid
relief, is increased exponentially by using keyboard/ voice shortcuts,
and it's well worth the front-end effort to program them yourself (with
the aid of System enhancers), even if the app fails to provide the
features.

It does, however, have a distinct drawback if you are ever forced to use
another machine that isn't like--configured, making you look and feel
like an idiot trying to mouse around looking for commands you know by
heart with keys.
