Subject: WHY did they not do it this way?

OK. If anyone can get me around this problem, I'd appreciate it.

We're doing a site which tracks session IDs on a server. The way this is done
is by generating HTML dynamically that passes on the session ID when a link is
clicked.

I can't figure out how to do this aside from going through a series of
Javascript gyrations, which time and my skillset don't permit, or cookies
ditto.

WHY OH WHY can't we, in our HTML, do as follows:

<EMBED>
<PARAM NAME="MOVIE" VALUE="mymovie.dir">
<PARAM NAME="LOOP" VALUE="TRUE">

<PARAM NAME="LINK1" VALUE="http://www.macromedia.com">
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

or even

<PARAM NAME="LINK" VALUE="link1?http://www.macromedia.com">
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
</embed>

Then, when authoring the actual Flash part, we could just set the link
parameter of a button as "LINK1".

Is this unreasonable? We were set to build a site on one of our existing back
ends, and I had to go from plans to use Flash navigation everywhere to using
just a splash screen.
Grrr.

I get paid the same either way, but it's a pain when you have to fight an
uphill battle to do cool sites. So look for GIFs and imagemaps unless we're
suddenly clever.
