Subject: FLASH: How does Flash play back MP3
From: Gorsky

We have built a program using Mpeg1 and Flash 4.0 , Exporting the Flash as
swfs with MP3 64 bit compression.

We have found that on some machines the sounds levels are not the same
between the Mpegs and the Swfs even though both files are starting out with
the same source material. This is observed when playing the mpegs and the
swfs by just double-clicking them from Windows Explorer,

We are trying to figure out why on some machines there are volume
discrepancies between the sound levels with Mpegs sounding higher than the
swfs and on other machines the swfs sound higher than the mpegs while on
most machines the levels are exactly the same.

How does Flash decompress the MP3 and play it back? Does it use a totally
different set of codecs than the Mpegs?

Thanks for any help.
