version 4+ browser can show png which unfortunately isn't supported by other

version browsers.  So basically its a backwards compatability issue...if

your site uses features not supported by below version 4 browsers, most

clients still prefer the site to be visible, if not completely perfect. With

png's unfortunately the site would just show up a whole load of broken image

links... which is not very usefull.


in time version 4 browsers will attain a critical mass and then png's will

become perfectly acceptable.... personally i don't quite think we are there

just yet.
