Subject: RE: FLASH: Alternative Uses for Flash

Bill,

I, too, have experimented with the Flash ActiveX control in VB and
PowerPoint. It works great. There is only one major drawback I've
found: If you port the application to someone who does not have the
ActiveX control, the Flash does not work. You just get a big, fat red X
where your interface should be.

If you're using it in a controlled atmosphere where every user
definitely has the Flash3 ActiveX component, you're in great shape, but
widespread distribution is "iffy" at best. (Unless, of course, you're
licensing the Active X component for distribution.)

Not to be pessimistic . . . I think it still has some great
implications. I'd be interested in hearing how others are implementing
this technology in ways other than "web."

Take care,
Rick
