THe funny thing is, to make this kind of thing work you have to *break* the
smartclip functionality. Simply right-click on the clip in the library and
select define clip parameters... then kill the stuff in there. The reason
for this is that what the smart clip UI *appears* to do , is invisibly add
some set variable actions to the first frame of the smart clip, no matter if
you actually set them to anything in the clip parameters UI. One thing to
note though, for this to take effect, you need to kill all of the instances
of the smart clip you have on the stage and put new ones out there.
