Subject: Re: FLASH: GGGGRRRR Yahoo! and Shockwave 7 :Þ

Distilled implicit questions and replies follow:

(Q) What's the connection between Beatnik and My Yahoo?
(A) I'm not sure, but Nigel noted that there may be some temporary
connection there. (I haven't been able to download the new Beatnik either
Friday or today yet, myself.)

(Q) What might have happened if my browser asks me for an application to
open a SWF?
(A) Ways to achieve that include but are not limited to: freakily subtle
installation error; some untoward editing to the "Helper Apps" prefs of
your browser.

(Q) Does the Shockwave Player play SWFs?
(A) No, not explicitly... the Flash Player plays SWFs, and the Shockwave
Player plays DCRs. Shockwave movies can use Flash sprites, however, and the
Shockwave downloads all include the Flash Player too.

(Q) "Is everyone of my customers going to have to go through this also?"
(A) If they did, then we'd likely see some evidence of this, what with a
few million Flash downloads per week.

(Q) How long does the Shockwave Player take to download?
(A) If you had not installed any version before, then it's less than a 2M
download. How long this takes varies with your connection. This is still
much smaller than the downloads for Real, QuickTime, Acrobat, Beatnik, and
other standard web extensions.

(Q) What's the simplest way to play a SWF?
(A) Get the Flash Player... it's very small and loads in a flash.

(Q) If someone advises Mac users to avoid Shockwave 7.02, do they "know
what they're talking about"?
(A) They're likely vulnerable to drawing conclusions on slight evidence...
although some Mac forums have advised people to do partial manual deletions
(!), there are still tens of thousands of easy and successful installs each
day.

If the actual desired question was something else, then please advise.
