It was a pretty spooky bit of synergy wasn't it.

By bizarre coincidence I was idly watching it whilst folding the stack of
Turnbull and Asser shirts I splurged my first big NM paycheck on.

The thing that really got me though was how much Gatsby and Fitzgerald were
driven by the same idea. If you have enough new money you can convince
people
that you are 'Old Money'. The reality, of course, is that the more new money
you
have the more arriviste Old Money finds you.

The parallels between this and New Economy - Old Economy are quite striking.

Intriguing, also, is the level of drive and self delusion in those caught up
in
it.


I just have this horrible vison of a .com 'entrepreneur' sitting amid a pile
of
immaculately folded Comme des Garcons, staring at the green light and
thinking..."I had more money on paper than General Motors yet they still
wouldn't take me seriously as a business".
